Hi Helen and Lynne

Helen its great that you joined.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend there will be some photos of our picnic at parliament yesterday. I certainly took about 100 photos. It was great that Phil Goff, Annette King and Sue Moroney took time out from the Mana by-election to come to the event.

Plans are underway in Wellington already for more events but I have also been doing some talking and thinking about the Wairarapa. I wondered if we might be able to hook into the annual Waitangi Day event at Queen Elizabeth Park. Maybe we could have a stall. NZEI can supply the stop the cuts materials. We could have the banner "education cuts don't heal". We could have info sheets on what has actually happened with the cuts. We could have face painting, balloons, bubbles. The branch could help with subsidised t-shirts for all the teachers. (I'm thinking the branch might offer those who have already purchased some money back as other branches have subsidised t-shirts to their members).

Tell me what you think.

Waitangi Day sounds like a good idea to me and that event is prpobably growing inn terms of attendance I would think. I wonder how the organisers would feel about using it as a political forum? Helen

One can only try and find out. We could promote it as an NZEI thing, or we could promote it as a Wairarapa ECE Network thing. Given that Waitangi Day itself is a day of political significance I think our chances are probably better than ok. also we will emphasise the activities as child friendly too - the face painting, bubbles etc etc. It will definitely be family friendly. Then if we are there with some good fact sheets etc all we need to do is hand them out.

Anyway its an idea worth investigating.
