I attended the meeting of the executive of Wellington Area Coucil yesterday and was very excited to receive what is now really resembling a strategic plan for the wider Wellington region in relation to the ECE cuts campaign. There was obviously a fantastic organizing meeting late last week that shows just how much people are now pulling together to gain more signatures for the petition.
Perhaps those who are participating in events in Wellington City between now and the end of the petition could use this discussion to alert others in the network as to where and when events are, and also alert other friends on the ecetogether website who are in Wellington to access and join the Wellington Network so that we are using the site to inform others, celebrate our wins, discuss concerns, and grow the campaign.

For those who are able, the Rimutaka Kindergarten Association are having a Teddy Bear's Picnic at Harcourt Park tomorrow Saturday March 5th from 2pm in the afternoon. In the event of rain the alternative venue is the civic centre next to H20 swim centre in Upper Hutt City. There will be a small team of kindergarten teachers present with a table of information and some petitions. Cheers, Dylan.

A number of early childhood teachers from kindergarten and early childhood education and care centres, including a worker from a teen parent centre, collaborated on a table at the Rimutaka Kindergarten Association's annual Teddy Bear's Picnic today. Unfortunately due to poor weather the event had to be moved indoors and so started slowly with few people, but gradually built over the course of the afternoon. Many thanks to Sandra and Julie for getting the question of permission settled and being there for the day. It was not difficult to get parents to sign with almost everyone we asked obliging. One gentleman left with some information and had a really good read of the NZEI pamphlet 'The biggest Cuts to the Smallest People". Presently he returned and was more than happy to sign, and then he asked his partner to sign as well. We received lots of positive and supportive comment, as well as comments around how more difficult the funding changes had made many feel, and how financially stretched many people with young families were. There was real awareness that this government still had to be made accountable to the people, even with the Christchurch quake on top of most peoples minds. There was very real and genuine concern about what may happen if this government decides to reduce the working for families payments as well. When I left the team were closing in on 75 more signatures for our petition. Dylan.
