The Sector is speaking out...

Almost a week since the Budget 'bomb' (as opposed to the current weather bomb sweeping the country!). So how is it feeling for people??

I linked in to the sites Liz Brown posted - I suggest you go there and gain a sense of the singled mindedness of the Minister and the impact of her decisions/proclamations are having.

It was easy to be angry from the outset - how could this not be seen as acts of devaluing the sector and our youngest citizens!

And in the days that have…

Kia ora koutou,

I took a look at the Youtube Comic Book presentation and the 'Speaking out for Maori Tamariki.

While poles apart in content and context, both speakers were very articulate and passionate!

In short, valuing the litereacy experience a child chooses to bring to the centre - whatever shape, form, language - does get results and sustains relationships from which other developments will be nutured. I have a 'comic book' story of my own that motivated me to take a… Continue

Nga mihi ki a koutou katoa!

Te mea tuatahi, nga mihi aroha ki nga whanau me nga hoa ma o Samoa. Taku ngakau he tino pouri i tenei wa mo nga tangata katoa o Samoa. No reira nga mihi ki a koutou katoa.

Nga mihi nunui ki a koutou katoa! Kia ora mo o awhi, o whakaaro me o manaaki ki ahau. Tena koutou katoa.

It has all been quite surreal for over this past week - I do feel proud and privileged (and inside I'm dancing!). It was like the past 15years 'flashed' before me as I thought of my CECUA days, of people… Continue

Auckland University - Epsom Campus - Beginning and Graduating Teachers Expo!

Ata marie! Hayley and I joined our Primary colleagues Di and Shannon, representing NZEI Te Riu Roa at our stall at the expo yesterday. An amazing event with 'waves' of people moving through a huge variety of stalls - gleaning information to assist them in their future career directions (including looking forward to their first teaching position!)

When I joined Hayley at lunchtime she had been on a roll… Continue

Thanks Judith, lovely to hear from you! Hope to be seeing you tomorrow and you can see my enormous expanding bump :-) We had a good meeting last night with centres interested in the ECECA, quite a bit of enthusiasm about coming on board, so we are still building on that work that you and Hayley did last year. Take care e hoa.

Morena Judith
I have been teaching part-time at Karori Kgtn - thoroughly enjoying it. Also been tutoring in a stage 3 ECE paper at Victoria University and employed as a visiting lecturer also by the university- life keeps going round in circles!
The South Canterbury Kgtn Assn has just approached me to be their relieving Senior Teacher until end of January 2010 so I have accepted their offer, taken leave, and head off to Timaru next week.
I am looking foward to working there in my home region as the SCFKA has also been contracted to provide senior teacher support to Waimate and Oamaru Kgtn Assns as well. I am working with Marg Whitford who is the CEO and we have already lots of plans.
The one area I would like to put some energy into is the kgtn leadership area - can you let me know what is happending as a result of the seminar last year and the signing of the CEA? We could do some work in partnership with NZEI in the area.
Meanwhile keep up the good work.
Cheers Lynne
