The next issue of He Kupu is now available online. The articles in this issue focus on ‘Literacy in early in childhood education’. The contributors include: Associate
Professor Claire McLachlan who contributes an article on what teachers need to
know in order to support children gain literacy skills and Judy Hamer who
outlines the important role of critical literacy in early childhood education.
Marjolein Whyte has written on ways to develop more equitable opportunities for
children in literacy acquisition and Professor Ian Hay, Associate Professor Ruth
Fielding-Barnsley and Therese Taylor consider activities that can facilitate
young children’s receptive and expressive vocabulary. Navpreet Kaur explores the
area of literacy from the perspective of the non English speaker in a bid to
preserve and maintain languages and Dr. Alison Arrow reports on her research
into the alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness. Finally Dr. Janet Mansfield
writes on the role of ‘narrative’ in early childhood educational research and
practice.
